The Effects of an Anti-Vibration Truck Cab Mattress on Team Truck Drivers’ Sleep, Health, and Performance

University of Washington Dept. of Environmental & Occupational Health Sciences Lynden, Inc./Oregon Health & Science University, Oregon Institute of Occupational Health Sciences

Project Summary

The work schedules and sleep environments of long haul truck drivers increase the risk of having inadequate sleep, which may adversely affect driver health and contribute to vehicle-related accidents. This proposal will determine if an intervention involving replacing industry standard spring and mattress bed system with a more comfortable, integrated vibration-reducing mattresses system will improve truck drivers' sleep, reduce adverse health consequences associated with poor sleep, and ultimately reduce the chance of a truck driver being involved in vehicle-related collisions.
