Project Summary

Approximately 100 small business' and 300-450 individuals operating in Pierce, Thurston and Kitsap County inspect 30,000 septic systems a year. Raw sewage in excess of 30 Million gallons is handled annually with significant exposure to both pathogenic and hazardous biologic's, confined space entry and workplace contamination. This project will develop educational resources and workplace assessment tools and procedures to identify and mitigate known and unrecognized hazards associated with handling and exposure in the workplace of human waste.
